A Prayer for our Nation

Untitled Design.png

Lord,

I honestly do not know where to begin. I am not equipped to pray an elaborate prayer on this nation’s suffering, but I know you listen and hear when we call. This nation is grieving, anxious, fearful, and full of rage. We are losing lives daily to a pandemic, enduring unemployment across the nation, and being awakened to the reality of racism that still exists today. Our hearts hurt. So much anger, rage, fear, and hurt are coming from all sides. This nation needs you. There is no doubt that your heart is breaking for your children, so we cry out for your hand to intervene. Heal our land. Mend our hearts. Turn our eyes towards you. May your comfort overflow in the families who have lost loved ones to the pandemic. May your provision meet the needs of unemployed families during this time. May your peace that surpasses all understanding flood the families of victims of violence. May your justice be sought to correct the oppression of your people. May your wisdom guide the leaders of our country, states, and communities. And may love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control abide in the souls of your people. This nation not only needs you, but needs to see who you are, what you are, and all you are. You are the Great I Am: the bread of life, light of the world, the door and protector of the sheep, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the way, truth, and life, and the true vine that enables your life to flow in and through us. I pray this nation learns to look to you. Purify and humble our hearts. Draw near to us as we draw near to you. Show this nation mercy and grace in our time of need. Help us to not be anxious about anything, but rather rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer.

Amen

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Romans 12:9-12

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:10-18

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
